Communicating your faith story is a powerful way to share Jesus with others. Figuring out how to tell it can seem daunting but breaking it down can help so much.
As you think about your own faith story consider these 3 things:
- What was my life like before I met Jesus?
- What did I think about God? about Jesus?
- What was my interest in spiritual topics?
- What things did I value? My priorities?
- What was the spiritual life of my family like? How did it influence me?
- How did I come to accept Jesus as Lord and Savior?
- What influenced this decision?
- Who in my life influenced this decision?
- Was there a specific moment of event?
- what changed my thinking/opinion about Jesus, salvation, faith, sin, etc?
- Why did I choose to follow Jesus at this point?
- What has my life been like since then?
- How did my view or opinion of God and faith change?
- What priorites were affected over time?
- Did I notice a changed opinion about the Bible?
- How has my heart for God and Jesus changed?
- What new goals do I have in life?
- How is my everyday experience affected by this faith?
Once you’ve answered these questions begin to think about how you would communicate your story as a 30 second “elevator pitch,” a 3 minute version and a 15 minute version. The shorter 2 versions are easily shareable as you meet and connect with people in your daily life.
