Week of August 17

DISCUSSION/REFLECTION QUESTIONS:

  • What was a HIGH and LOW from the past week?
  • What is something you are looking forward to in the near future?
  • READ: Matthew 7:13-23.

Spend some time SOAPing this passage.  You can either spend time SOAPing individually and documenting for a several minutes and then spend time sharing with each -OR- SOAP in real time with each other.  Either way make as many observations as you can.  Observations: What are the things that stand out to you about this passage?

  • How would you summarize this passage in one sentence?
  • What does this passage tell me about who God is?
  • What does this passage tell me about who I am?
  • On a scale of 1 to 100, how certain are you that you have eternal life?  Explain
  • How can you know if you are walking on the wide path or the narrow path?
  • Is the path to eternal life narrow because of God’s design or man’s choices?
  • Doug said that we are shaped, influenced, taught and discipled by many people and things in life.  Who or what are the prophets, teachers, shapers and influencers of my life?
  • True teachers and false teachers will both appeal to Scripture. So how can the church know which teachings are true and which are false?  How can you know what is true?
  • READ the following verses and briefly discuss each one:
    • John 14:6
    • John 10:7
    • John 10:9
    • John 6:68-69
    • John 14:15
    • Romans 10:9-10
    • Hebrews 9:27-28
    • 1 John 5:13
  • If not everyone who says they know Jesus is in fact known by Jesus, how can you know for certain that Jesus knows you?  That you have eternal life?
  • What else stood out from this week’s sermon?
