SKYPE VIRTUAL GROUPS GUIDE

 With COVID-19 changing how we  “do church” and connect with each other, we want to provide you with tools to help!  Skype is a great free option for you to use to live video-interact with your small group during this time of social distancing.

Skype Instructions:

Step #1 Go to skype.com

Step #2: Click the blue “Download Skype” button. On the next page click either “Get Skype for Mac” or click the drop down arrow and elect “Get Skype for PC.” Skype should begin downloading.

Step #3: After it is done downloading, click on the download folder. If you are using a phone, go to the App Store on your phone and type in Skype. Simply press the download button and you will pick back up with us on step #6.

Step #4. On this next page, click and drag the Skype logo into the folder. Skype is now on your computer

Step #5 Find the Skype program on your computer and click on it to open.

Step #6. For both computer and phone users either login to Skype if you already have an account or click “create account.” You will either need an email address or phone number as well as a password to make the account. It may also ask for your birthdate and send you an email with a code that you need to enter to verify that it is actually you.

Step #7. Once your account is created, send your small group leader the email address or phone number that you used to set up your account. Group leaders, feel free to reach out and collect the email and phone numbers as well.  If you click the 3 dots at the stop of the screen and then click settings, you can also see what your Skype name is. Feel free to use that to lookup members as well.

Step #8: Small group leaders, on the main page of Skype, click on the contacts tab, click new contact and enter in the email address, phone number or Skype name you were given by each group member. Click on the “Add” button next to their profile that pops up.

Step #9: After the leader has added all group members as contacts, they will go back to the main page of Skype. Click the “chats” tab, click “new chat” and then “group chat” in the drop down menu. Name your group chat, click the blue arrow and on the next page select all contacts that you would like to add to the chat. Click done. On a phone it works the same way, but to add a new group chat, hit the pencil and paper icon in the top right. Then hit “new group chat”

Step #10: On this new page:  Go to the top of the page and click the video camcorder button. Then click “ring the group” The group call will go out. As your group members answer they will begin appearing in the chat. If a group member misses the call, they can call back and will be added into the chat automatically.

FaceTime Instructions:

Step #1: Group leaders, make sure that you have all of your group members added as contacts on your iPhone with their cellphone numbers. If they don’t have an iPhone but are wanting to use a Mac or iPad. Make a new contact for them in the Contacts app on your phone and add the email address that the group member uses for their Apple ID.

Step #2: Go to the green FaceTime app on your phone that looks like it has a video camcorder on it.

Step #3: In the app click the plus button in the top right corner, add the name of the people you are wanting to call one by one, then hit the video call button.

Step #4 During the call, drag the gray box at the bottom of the screen up and add more people to the chat if you missed anyone.
